The LOL Word

Hannah Crofts Review by Hannah Crofts 4 Published: 17 Aug 2019 Gilded Balloon at Old Tolbooth Market Show Dates: 31 Jul 2019-25 Aug 2019

Edinburgh Fringe – and let’s be honest, the comedy world in general – is saturated with male comedians. Which is why The LOL Word was created in 2016 by a group of queer female and non-binary comedians to give themselves a platform in this male-dominated landscape.

This show is fierce, fiery and ever so funny

Featuring a mixed-bill of rising stand-up stars and nightly special guests this show is fierce, fiery and ever so funny. From the superb Drag King Trinidad and TooGayThough to BBC New Comedy and Funny Women Finalist Sarah Mann, the guests are exceptional and a real treat.

As an inclusive comedy night that describes itself as ‘punching the patriarchy’ instead of punching down, you can be rest assured that there aren’t any jokes at the expense of marginalised groups here (so no gags including sexism, racism or transphobia). Expect a night of quality comedy that is personal and powerful, and puts a big finger up to the patriarchy, misogyny and homophobia.

If you like comedy and are looking for a fun show that is both inclusive and will also provide non-stop lols then you’ll absolutely love this night.

Described by Sofie Hagen as her “favourite comedy night in London”, The LOL Word is very likely to become your favourite here in Edinburgh, too – get your tickets quick!
