Zombie Prom

This fun musical is set in a 1950’s American High School and shows how true live can survive, even after death!

The action takes place in 1958 at Enrico Fermi High School. The costumes are simple but totally authentic for the period; all the boys are wearing slacks, shirts, ties and sweaters and the girls are wearing blouses and skirts. No denim jeans or sweatshirts. Then new pupil Jonny Warner appears, wearing a leather jacket. He’s an orphan, a rebel and an outsider. He and a girl named Toffee immediately fall for each other and pledge undying love. Unfortunately, Toffee’s parents are less than keen on Jonny and tell her to break it off, which she does. Jonny immediately commits suicide by throwing himself into a pool of toxic waste at the local nuclear power plant. Toffee is heartbroken. She asks “can love survive when your boyfriend’s buried in a lead-lined coffin at the bottom of the sea?”

The answer, of course, is “yes” and Jonny returns from the dead, though in not quite the same state as he had been. Jonny and Toffee are reunited and Jonny is determined to rejoin his class and, most importantly, take Toffee to the Senior Prom. The principal, Miss Strict, refuses Jonny on the grounds that he is dead and threatens to cancel the Prom if he attends.

Can true love survive? Will Jonny make it to the Prom? Needless to say, everything ends happily in this enjoyable musical. The production, acting and singing are all extremely good.

Since you’re here…

… we have a small favour to ask. We don't want your money to support a hack's bar bill at Abattoir, but if you have a pound or two spare, we really encourage you to support a good cause. If this review has either helped you discover a gem or avoid a turkey, consider doing some good that will really make a difference.

You can donate to the charity of your choice, but if you're looking for inspiration, there are three charities we really like.

Mama Biashara
Kate Copstick’s charity, Mama Biashara, works with the poorest and most marginalised people in Kenya. They give grants to set up small, sustainable businesses that bring financial independence and security. That five quid you spend on a large glass of House White? They can save someone’s life with that. And the money for a pair of Air Jordans? Will take four women and their fifteen children away from a man who is raping them and into a new life with a moneymaking business for Mum and happiness for the kids.
