Shallow Resting Place explores the pain experienced when a relationship you thought would last forever, comes to an end. Exploring the addictive nature of nostalgia, the consequences of romanticising the people we love and not to mention, hares.Three years ago, Sophia decided to leave. Now she returns, having graduated and outgrown her hometown. Charlie decided to stay; living with her mum and working as a barista in the centre of town. Set against the Oxfordshire prairies, Shallow Resting Place follows the reunion of these two exes as they retrace a familiar hike.In 2023, Shallow Resting Place was programmed as part of OffBeat Festival, where it was performed as a work in progress at the Oxford Playhouse. This year, the play was commissioned by Everybody Panic as part of We‘ll Be Safe Here at the Pegasus Theatre.Lauren Carter is a playwright and director, compelled to tell stories about women, queerness, and the environment. Previously, Lauren was the Resident Director of the Oxford Playhouse, during which she co-founded Queer Fest. She has directed both her own writing and the work of emerging playwrights at various venues across the UK, including: Oxford Playhouse, Wilton’s Music Hall, Riverside Studios, Arcola Theatre, Pegasus Theatre, King’s Head Theatre, Reading Rep Theatre, Edinburgh Fringe Festival.Lauren’s play FACE DOWN IN THE DIRT was longlisted for the BOLD Playwright Award.Part of North Sapph-Fest 2026LATECOMERS MAY NOT BE ADMITTED.UNDER 18s ARE NOT PERMITTED INTO THE THEATRE FOR THIS PERFORMANCE.The performance lasts approximately 50 minutes without an interval.Refunds and exchanges are not available.
