Straight off the runway and onto the West End stage, the cast of Queenz: The Show with Ballz, strut their way into the Arts Theatre for a night of gender-bending, show-stopping glamour. We are gifted a plethora of pop-smashing, note-hitting and stylishly sizzling performances from our queenz of the evening. With sensational numbers from artists such as Britney, Little Mix, Lady Gaga and The Spice Girls (to name a few), it is clear to see that this high-energy show is something not to be messed with. In no particular order, we are introduced to our incredibly talented Queenz of the evening: Belle DuBall, Miss Dia Montay, Candy Caned, Billie Eyelash and ZeZe Van Cartier; all unique individuals who when joined together form the ultimate grand-slam girl group.
Queenz highlights the importance of self love and letting loose
As concerts go, this was an experience like no other. Sure, you can go to a drag queen show and enjoy lip syncing and comedy stints but Queenz has that je ne sais quoi unlike any performance of this art form I have ever seen and definitely stands on its own high heels compared to many similar shows or anything brought out of the Ru Paul multiverse. What is even more magical about this show is that it celebrates expression in the highest degree, for whether that is through gender fluidity to death dropping in the middle of the stage, Queenz highlights the importance of self love and letting loose to be yourself and what it means to just have a great time by shutting out the world and having a good laugh with friends.
Throughout the hour and a half production, we are taken on a complete journey of utter campery. With gorgeous outfits (designed by Rikki Finlay) that speak to the heart of each performer’s distinctive personality, to floor pounding dance breaks that would even make the oldest of audience members vogue on the floor, like the ballroom scene of New York! From start to end we are taken on a rollercoaster of jollification as the queenz 'sleighed' the stage, encouraging us all to get involved and have a wee boogie whilst we enjoyed our pre-bought drinks in their plenty. This show it the perfect Christmas night out for those who just want to enjoy a festive escape.
Queenz: The Show with Ballz spreads positivity, love and the key message that anyone can be a queen. It is not about title, it is about feeling and that is the most important knowledge of all. Queenz has been seen all over from the Edinburgh Fringe and to our screens from shows such as Walk the Line. It is clear the production is here to stay and that there is a demand for this wave of drag-queen theatre domination! If you see these queenz arrive in your hometown – you'd better strut to the box office for a ticket!
