Men With Coconuts

Emotional balladry, lyrical wizardry, and musical husbandry are the cornerstones of Men With Coconuts, at PBH's Free Fringe @ Liquid Room Annexe/Warehouse.

A night of laughter, music, and unmatched improvisation

This improvised comedy show based on audience suggestions is an unpredictable rollercoaster of laughter and joy. To give you an idea, one suggestion led to a surreal sketch about a clump of dead dog; both bizarre and hilarious, showcasing the troupe's creativity and fearlessness in their improv. Another sketch about Santa Claus and his Elves flying around for Christmas further demonstrated their talents. Based on requests for TV genres, this sketch included a comprehensive range as they moved from interpreting the piece in the form of comedy, melodrama, tragedy, horror, rom-com and the traditional soap opera. It showcased their versatility and adaptability, fully engaging us all in the creativity and heightening the level of entertainment. The sketch recreating how an elderly couple met in Tenerife furthered their emotional range in a heartwarming scene that demonstrated the troupe's knack for weaving touching narratives into their improv. The finale came as a musical piece based on another suggestion. This time, the scene was of someone's granny dying during the recording of the TV show Countdown. This gave them the chance to demonstrate their impressive ability in handling sensitive material with humour and grace.

Knowing that each performance is going to be unique makes this show even more special. You could go several times and see something completely different on each occasion and also arrive prepared with you own challenging suggestions.

I left Men With Coconuts with a smile on my face and a desire to experience their talent again and again. If you're looking for a night of laughter, music, and unmatched improvisation, don't miss this incredible troupe!

Since you’re here…

… we have a small favour to ask. We don't want your money to support a hack's bar bill at Abattoir, but if you have a pound or two spare, we really encourage you to support a good cause. If this review has either helped you discover a gem or avoid a turkey, consider doing some good that will really make a difference.

You can donate to the charity of your choice, but if you're looking for inspiration, there are three charities we really like.

Mama Biashara
Kate Copstick’s charity, Mama Biashara, works with the poorest and most marginalised people in Kenya. They give grants to set up small, sustainable businesses that bring financial independence and security. That five quid you spend on a large glass of House White? They can save someone’s life with that. And the money for a pair of Air Jordans? Will take four women and their fifteen children away from a man who is raping them and into a new life with a moneymaking business for Mum and happiness for the kids.

Theatre MAD
The Make A Difference Trust fights HIV & AIDS one stage at a time. Their UK and International grant-making strategy is based on five criteria that raise awareness, educate, and provide care and support for the most vulnerable in society. A host of fundraising events, including Bucket Collections, Late Night Cabarets, West End Eurovision, West End Bares and A West End Christmas continue to raise funds for projects both in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa.
