Huggers

I Nelly Lewis Review by I Nelly Lewis 3 Published: 7 Jun 2017 Laughing Horse @ The Quadrant Show Dates: 6 May 2017-4 Jun 2017

An hour of friendly, casual entertainment and standup comedy for kids, with a few ‘jokes’ that only adults would get. Huggers is produced by Nik Coppin, who is also the main presenter of this variety show. Today, there were three performers who were light, pleasant and kept the audience engaged.

It had the feel of an entertainment event at a holiday resort

There was plenty to see, including stand-up comedy, a little bit of magic and even a Muppet-like puppet. All of the acts were successful in communicating with the children at their level. The performers were authentic and handled the audience reactions and comments with humour, style and grace.

Interaction with the audience, such as inviting children on stage to tell jokes or getting kids to talk with Batman on the phone, as well as other interactive activities, kept the action going throughout. The kids thoroughly enjoyed participating and felt ‘hugged’ and listened to. Although the use of toilet humour did the trick, it didn’t really seem as appropriate for all ages as the rest of the show.

It had the feel of an entertainment event at a holiday resort, which was fun but did not have any real educational value and it didn’t leave a strong impression.
