Guru Dudu's Silent Disco Walking Tour

Tuesday McPhail Review by Tuesday McPhail 5 Published: 30 Aug 2015 Grassmarket East Show Dates: 7 Aug 2015-31 Aug 2015

Everything I love about the Edinburgh Fringe can be summed up by a group of people rocking out to the guitar solo in Bohemian Rhapsody in the middle of the street with little or no explanation. Guru Dudu’s Silent Disco Walking Tour is nothing short of dance Prozac, and I’d do it every day if I could.

I’d highly recommend catching the soul train before it heads out of town.

Gathering at the east end of the Grassmarket, Guru Dudu and his support team greet ticket holders and hand them their bluetooth headphones through which they will experience the silent disco. From there we are taken on a pleasant walk around the Grassmarket and the surrounding areas to the soundtrack of Guru Dudu’s fantastic rock and disco tunes, with periodic stops for dance breaks. One of my most treasured memories from this Fringe will always be walking one step at a time and clicking my fingers up the hill towards the Mile singing I’ve Got to Break Free at the top of my voice, feeling like I probably look like a complete idiot but neither I nor my fellow disco brothers and sisters are inclined to care.

The sheer joy that this ingenious tour infuses you with is infectious, and I found myself smiling and laughing at the memory of it for hours afterwards. It’s become so popular that they’ve added the weekend of the 5th and 6th of September to their run, so I’d highly recommend catching the soul train before it heads out of town.
