Dad

The Hope Theatre Show Dates: 24 Aug 2026-25 Aug 2026

“I am a mum. I am a dad. I am whatever else is in between.”Being a parent is hard enough. All Ellis wants is to keep their 4-year-old daughter Becky safe and happy, while bringing her up as their most authentic self. That’s not easy task when you’re non-binary.But as Ellis strives to create the future queer utopia to raise their daughter in, the tides begin to turn against them.Suddenly they are no longer welcome at the local mother’s group, their neighbours spy with a watchful eye, all while discriminatory laws are passed. Ellis soon finds themselves at the centre of a witch-hunt which culminates in a fight for the custody of their own daughter.A queer parable for our times, “Dad” explores the grey areas of genderqueer parenting and rails against the increased government sanctioned transphobia we see today. Written by James Robertson (“Deadcrush”, Hope Theatre) and directed by Kit McGuire (“Third Summer of Love”, Camden Fringe), this marks the play's second development performance after a staged reading at the Omnibus Theatre's 96 Festival. Part of North Sapph-Fest 2026LATECOMERS MAY NOT BE ADMITTED.UNDER 18s ARE NOT PERMITTED INTO THE THEATRE FOR THIS PERFORMANCE.The performance lasts approximately 60 minutes without an interval.Refunds and exchanges are not available.
