Sarah-Louise Young channels four very different, equally hilarious and rather odd women in this cabaret spectacular. From Bernie St. Claire, the aged diva with a Brooklyn slur, to La Poule Plombee, the masochistic French songstress, Young inhabits each of her characters to excess, shedding real tears and nailing the different accents, even when singing. Her strong acting and talent for imitation creates a hilarious range of parodies (the hysterical Australian spiritualist raging about sheep is particularly wonderful) that nevertheless rise above parody to become real characters in their own right. Carsha, dressed in a pink catsuit, is a quiet, warm antidote to the brasher characters, swaying with her oo-kelele. What all four characters have in common is Youngs powerful singing voice, with its impressive range and ability to fill the space, whether she is singing jolly rollicking tunes or melancholy ditties. She also creates an immediate rapport with the audience that lasts through all the characters, and leaves people feeling very generous at the end of the evening. I think most of the audience would join me in my disbelief that this is a free show it is as good if not better than anything youd pay to see in the Fringe. Warm-hearted, hilarious from start to finish, this is a show that will be full night after night, so get in there soon!
