Russell Howard has been playing to packed houses down at the Pleasance Courtyard with his show Wandering. Its a suitable title, Howard taking us on a wander through his material, responding well to the audience along the way.
This is stand up that almost everyone will enjoy. Its not extending the genre, but it is performed with a charming, easygoing manner, a little like a chilled out Jason Byrne in style. His interaction with the audience is excellent, poking gentle fun without resorting to being insulting.
He performance is fresh and bouncy. He seems completely at home on stage and is clearly enjoying the show nearly as much as the audience is. This is not in-depth satire, but a look at the smaller things in life like his aunties house, his brother and his break up with his girlfriend. It is his ability to find humour and joy in these small things his wanderings that give him his comedy. It is hard to find fault, although at times it is a little hard to hear due to the way he uses the microphone, and the fact that the show is so busy, with audience on 3 sides.
A good bet for those looking for an hour of solid stand up comedy.
