Bandwagon Theatre Company bring this short story to the fringe as they tell a murky tale of the secret sale of the then-Indian-Ocean island of Diego Garcia by the US and Britain. A fascinating piece of overlooked history, this is very much a one-sided piece deploring what both countries’ governments did to the native islanders. This eye-opening piece of theatre swiftly moves through the story through a series of tableaux featuring caricatures more than characters of gun-toting US Army members, flustered and posh British ministers and downtrodden natives. The young, talented cast of four give it their all, if overplaying at times, and the carefully designed set gives this production a slick and professional feel. The shortness of the pieces means the script never steps far from telling you the story, with little emotion, but the power of the true story behind the theatre is one that we have shamefully forgotten and one that this production beautifully tells.
