Broadway Baby has a little chat with sultry songstress Cat Loud, who is bringing Cat Loud's Wayward Girls to Edinburgh '16 alongside The Bluewater.
I had my very first radio interview earlier this year. When I was asked what audiences could expect from my show, I panicked and said “I like touching people!” I stand by that.
Tell us about yourself….
Oh, gosh! Where do I start? *fans self* Well, I’m a Gemini and I’m from a Scottish island but I won’t tell you which one because I’m wanted in three villages. My greatest loves are Freddie Mercury, girls who break the rules and martinis; stirred, never shaken. Like myself. I sing with a voice that can only be described as sweet lady bass, and I write and perform cabaret.
Do you come here often?
The Eighties called. It wants its pick-up lines back. Lucky for you, I was born in the Eighties. *winks* This is my seventh EdFringe. Yes, SEVEN YEARS AND COUNTING, but my first Fringe performing at theSpace, and my first Fringe accompanied by The Bluewater. Seventh time lucky?
Early to rise or late to bed?
Come on, now. Cabaret people are practically nocturnal. Blues music is synonymous with smoky clubs and naughtiness concealed by the dark of night. And another thing, sequins don’t look half as good in direct sunlight. It’s a scientific fact. Having said all that, last year my show was at lunchtime and was ironically called Cat Loud’s Big Night In. So not only did I have to mind my P’s and Q’s, but I also had to be out flyering by 9am. I frequently felt like all seven Von Trapp children singing So Long Farewell at dusk every night. Never again.
What’s your passion?
I had my very first radio interview earlier this year. When I was asked what audiences could expect from my show, I panicked and said “I like touching people!” I stand by that. I feel passionate about touching people.
Are you monogamous to EdFringe, or do you date other festivals?
As you know, this is my seventh EdFringe. She treats me mean, it keeps me keen and I just can’t stay away. Look at her! She’s a knockout. But I’m not ready to settle down just yet. I feel a seven year itch coming on. Any suggestions?
Can we get a second date?
You’re a smooth operator. I like you. Sure. Carpe diem and all that jazz. Follow that little white rabbit over there. He’ll lead you to the best place in town and I’ll meet you in ten minutes…
