AVICIDE looks at the person behind the label. Broadway Baby has a little chat.

The show is fast-paced, witty, compassionate and hopes to reconfirm in people’s minds that behind every label, every form and tick-box lies a person

Tell us about your show

Jolly Green Moment’s debut production is a 40 minute piece of new writing which is designed to challenge and question society’s traditional view towards mental health through the character of Roger, a man trapped in his Waterloo flat because he believes all the birds have left London's Southbank to spite him and they may attack at any moment. The show is fast-paced, witty, compassionate and hopes to reconfirm in people’s minds that behind every label, every form and tick-box lies a person.

Why did you decide to take your show to Space UK this year?

With AVICIDE we have something to say and need to be heard. The Fringe is the best platform and theSpaceUK is an extension of that. We have been offered a great venue from theSpaceUK which will enable us to produce AVICIDE and is a brilliant starting point for our Fringe debut.

What are you most looking forward to at this year’s festival?

We’re looking forward to receiving feedback on AVICIDE, watching it develop night after night and trying to draw in audiences. Because this is our first production as a company everything will be an invaluable learning experience and we are looking forward to all of it!

What’s the main thing you want to get out of the festival this year?

First and foremost, experience. This is our first production as a company and first in Edinburgh, so the whole adventure will be a great experience for Jolly Green Moment and the cast of AVICIDE to learn for future productions. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is also a great chance for us to establish Jolly Green Moment as an up and coming Theatre Company, allowing us to do bigger and better work in the future.

Can you tell us a bit about your company’s background?

Jolly Green Moment was founded this year by three Drama and Theatre Arts students studying at Goldsmith’s, University of London. We found we were dissatisfied by the creative limitations of the course and therefore needed to make our own work. We decided AVICIDE would be our debut production, which we performed at Goldsmiths with the Theatre and Performance department’s support, before ambitiously deciding to head North in August.

If your show does well in Edinburgh, what do you want to do with it next?

We would love to develop AVICIDE as much as possible and then we hope to tour to as vast and varied an audience as we can. We will also work on a new production and plan for Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2016, thriving off the back of AVICIDE’s success.
