Come and hear about the woman who was instrumental in shaping the sound of the big band era; the woman from south London who became one of the only three women immortalised in Art Kanes iconic photo Great Day in Harlem and the mystery of the two Irenes.Join us for an evening that celebrates female jazz composers of the twentieth century and features a collection of songs from some of the finest musicians, including gems made famous by the likes of Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole and Ella Fitzgerald; interwoven with stories about life as a woman musician in a male-dominated art-form.Devised and presented by vocalist Rebecca Askew ..her voice is magnificent(Everything Theatre), pianist Victoria Wilson - Marian McPartland tribute album (Dave Gelly, The Observer) and bassist John Bedford. They will be joined by some very special guest soloists, including multi-instrumentalist Charlotte Glasson.
