Media coverage of mental health commonly refers to crisis. Mental health professionals sometimes do too, usually to highlight problems in their own areas of interest. But, research shows that most people who use mental health services are satisfied with their care. The problem is accessing services that are over-stretched and under-funded. Professor Stephen Lawrie (The University of Edinburgh) argues no radical shake-up is required " services just need funding! At best, talk of crisis is a rhetorical device to garner support; at worst, it reinforces the stigmatisation of those who use and provide mental health services.
