WE-ARE-ONE by Harem of No One & friends in support of queer earthquake victims
  • London Fringe

As Harem of No One, we came together to have a safe and nurturing space to perform, to create and to celebrate our existence, free of oppression and hate. We spread the message but the message is as much as of the community as our own. We believe that by standing together, we can achieve great things, things even greater than our size and our reach. This is why we say: WE-ARE-ONE, one for all and all for one. We invite you to take part in our fundraiser to support queer people and sex workers who have been victims of the earthquakes that took place in Turkey. We are shaken and still distressed by this disaster who has affected millions of people. Most of us are from the region and we have friends, brothers, sisters, siblings, members of our chosen family and members of our community who have been directly or indirectly affected by this disaster. We have very little to do to help the survivors except try to support them as much as we can. LGBTIQA+ Earthquake Solidarity is the collection of dozens of LGBTIQA+ activists and organisations based in Turkey who came together to support queer people and sex workers in the region, including from among the big refugee population. They came together in extreme speed because of the anticipation of discrimination in receiving aid and humanitarian emergency support against them in similar situations. Sadly, the inital reports of incidents confirm that there is a heavy such discrimination. And that's why we, among the global efforts of gathering funds for everyone affected, have chosen to support their efforts in providing aid and negating the discrimination as much as they can. So what can you expect from this fundraiser night, in addition to the usual Harem of No One extravaganza, we will bring you acts you have not witnessed before, the most precious talents of our most diverse community And more and more and more Hosted by the trouble duo: Darlink Dick & Tahini Molasses , you will get a chance to witness an enchanting line up of performers joining them. Keep following us for the full list as we will reveal them over time. Come ! Harem of No One is a queer collective of performers of Turkish, Kurdish and Middle-Eastern heritages but absolutely anyone is welcome and encouraged to join and have fun with us. Since you’re here…

… we have a small favour to ask. We don't want your money to support a hack's bar bill at Abattoir, but if you have a pound or two spare, we really encourage you to support a good cause. If this review has either helped you discover a gem or avoid a turkey, consider doing some good that will really make a difference.

You can donate to the charity of your choice, but if you're looking for inspiration, there are three charities we really like.

Mama Biashara
Kate Copstick’s charity, Mama Biashara, works with the poorest and most marginalised people in Kenya. They give grants to set up small, sustainable businesses that bring financial independence and security. That five quid you spend on a large glass of House White? They can save someone’s life with that. And the money for a pair of Air Jordans? Will take four women and their fifteen children away from a man who is raping them and into a new life with a moneymaking business for Mum and happiness for the kids.

Theatre MAD
The Make A Difference Trust fights HIV & AIDS one stage at a time. Their UK and International grant-making strategy is based on five criteria that raise awareness, educate, and provide care and support for the most vulnerable in society. A host of fundraising events, including Bucket Collections, Late Night Cabarets, West End Eurovision, West End Bares and A West End Christmas continue to raise funds for projects both in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa.
