Franz Tunder (1614-67) was Organist at the Marienkirche in Lbeck and one of the most important composers in the north German school of organ composition. His influence on other composers " not least Dieterich Buxtehude, his son-in-law and successor at the Marienkirche " was considerable. His surviving organ works include several fine praeludia and superb chorale fantasias. In this, Tunder's anniversary year, David Hamilton performs a selection of these pieces on the wonderful Frobenius organ in the Canongate Kirk, one of the most stunning acoustics and settings in Edinburgh.
