TransSober Drug and Alcohol Peer Support Groups Every Monday 6 -7.30 Brighton

TransSober Peer Support

These are volunteer-led groups facilitated by volunteers from the trans and non-binary community, all of whom have a range of lived-experience of drug and/ or alcohol use and its associated problems, but are now living drug and alcohol-free.

The purpose of the group is to provide an informal, face-to -face weekly support opportunity that attendees can build into their routine: a place where trans and non-binary people can come together in a safe, non-judgmental space.

We support each other through sharing experiences of all aspects of life, whether that be directly around your drug and/or alcohol use, or simply everyday life.

This is a drop-in, so people can come and go as they please. Some people choose to share, whilst others prefer just to listen. We have a range of fidget toys and ear-defenders to assist with any sensory needs. Range of soft drinks ,herbal teas and snacks available,

Finding a space that you feel comfortable and safe when youre trans or non-binary difficult enough, but is especially hard when it comes to peer support groups. My name is Vernon and I created TransSober to fill this gap and ensure the TNBI Genderqueer community get the peer support they need around drug and alcohol use.

Booking is not necessary, you can just turn up however, if you would like to book a ticket, you're more than welcome

TransSober hosts regular fun social events where you can learn a new activity, access free services or take part in making something fun. Previous socials include acupuncture, trans banner making and learning cocktail recipes (non-alcoholic of course!)

We also can provide one-to-one outreach support, offering bespoke support, advice and signposting for managing some of lifes challenges such as loneliness, transitioning, deed polls, wellbeing, money management, employment etc

We also work with other services, such as Brighton Period Project and Terrance Higgins Trust. This enables us to offer free sanitary products and condoms; also toiletries kindly donated by the general public. We provide free wellbeing bags to any service user, containing a range of goodies, such as bath bombs, fidget toys, colouring books, and pencils,

Please see our website for everything we do and services we offer around drug and alcohol free living or reducing and managing drug and alcohol use and join our newsletter to keep up to date with what's going on at TransSober

Since you’re here…

… we have a small favour to ask. We don't want your money to support a hack's bar bill at Abattoir, but if you have a pound or two spare, we really encourage you to support a good cause. If this review has either helped you discover a gem or avoid a turkey, consider doing some good that will really make a difference.

You can donate to the charity of your choice, but if you're looking for inspiration, there are three charities we really like.

Mama Biashara
Kate Copstick’s charity, Mama Biashara, works with the poorest and most marginalised people in Kenya. They give grants to set up small, sustainable businesses that bring financial independence and security. That five quid you spend on a large glass of House White? They can save someone’s life with that. And the money for a pair of Air Jordans? Will take four women and their fifteen children away from a man who is raping them and into a new life with a moneymaking business for Mum and happiness for the kids.

Theatre MAD
The Make A Difference Trust fights HIV & AIDS one stage at a time. Their UK and International grant-making strategy is based on five criteria that raise awareness, educate, and provide care and support for the most vulnerable in society. A host of fundraising events, including Bucket Collections, Late Night Cabarets, West End Eurovision, West End Bares and A West End Christmas continue to raise funds for projects both in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa.
