The Writers' Bloc
  • UK Regional & Tours

Soviet Russia, 1937. In an effort to deflect public attention away from the deadly purges of his enemies, Joseph Stalin commissions a great book to be written. Five of Russias greatest writers are placed in a room with an infinite supply of vodka, cigarettes and fear. For each writer it is their last chance, and every word is loaded.

Follow the fictional historical thriller based on the works of writers Yevgeny Zamyatin (We), Mikhail Bulgakov (The Master and Magherita), and Boris Pasternak (Dr Zhivago), The Writers Bloc explores loyalty, heroism and creating in times censorship. With a tense blend of violence, comedy and physical theatre, Unmasked Theatre offer a glimpse of the life of a writer during the Great Terror.
