The Snail and the Whale

The Snail and the Whale is an entertaining show about a woman reminiscing about her childhood and in particular her fond memories of her father’s bedtime stories.

Her favourite story as a child was the journey of the snail and the whale who set off around the world together. They help each other to survive in diverse surroundings from the tallest volcanoes to the deepest icebergs. Even penguin rookeries were recreated on this enchanting set. The stage was as colourful as the realms of a child's imagination, and managed to transform a little girl's bedroom into a wild ocean.

The experience of the young girl was played by an adult actor incredibly well. The role of the father was also touching well done and he appeared a wise and loving father. The obvious affection shown by the sea captain father towards his daughter, despite his long absences, was the sweetest part of the show.

The show was entertaining and engaging thanks to audience interaction, which kept things fun. Following the storyline they soon seized the chance to squirt their super soakers, just like the splash of whale’s tail, among the audience much to their delight. Every child also jumped at the chance to do a penguin impressions. The Snail and the Whale is an occasion for children to enjoy an extravagant story telling with wonderful acting and an excellent violin soundtrack.

Since you’re here…

… we have a small favour to ask. We don't want your money to support a hack's bar bill at Abattoir, but if you have a pound or two spare, we really encourage you to support a good cause. If this review has either helped you discover a gem or avoid a turkey, consider doing some good that will really make a difference.

You can donate to the charity of your choice, but if you're looking for inspiration, there are three charities we really like.

Mama Biashara
Kate Copstick’s charity, Mama Biashara, works with the poorest and most marginalised people in Kenya. They give grants to set up small, sustainable businesses that bring financial independence and security. That five quid you spend on a large glass of House White? They can save someone’s life with that. And the money for a pair of Air Jordans? Will take four women and their fifteen children away from a man who is raping them and into a new life with a moneymaking business for Mum and happiness for the kids.
