n their third production for the Fringe, Siamsoir Academy present a fairytale about a child who is stolen away and destined to unite the Faery and the Shadow clans. Only, they narrate the story not through words but mesmerising Irish and modern dance sequences.Siamsoir Academy are a community-based organisation from Edinburgh, established in 2005 with the aim to teach and promote Irish Dance and performance skills through international showcases. In The Prophecy, the performers hail from Scotland, the US and Ireland, and cover a wide range of backgrounds and experience levels. The show is well-choreographed with a mix of solos, group pieces and duets, allowing each of the performers to showcase their individual talents. The set is simple, expressions convincing and costumes relevant to context and character, enabling the audience to ease into the tale. At no point during the performance does the lack of words keep the story from being shared eloquently. The Prophecy is inspired by W B Yeats’ The Stolen Child, one of his earlier poems about a human child abducted by Faeries - the Changeling. Although the theme - the struggle between good and evil – is common among fairytales, the show is magically original and enchantingly suited for all age groups.
