The Big Queer Blind Date
  • London Fringe

Missing the days of Saturday nights watching Cilla, but wishing that actually Cilla was a geriatric drag king who is also a priest?

THE BIG QUEER BLIND DATEWednesday 17th January 7pmThe Royal Vauxhall Tavern

Hosted by everyone's favourite drag priest SWEET FA, as well as performances from FABIO LEZONLI and CABBAGE THE CLOWN, The Big Queer Blind Date is a silly, fun, wholesome and a little bit raucous night of drag, mingling and blind date live onstage. Come along and see your fellow queers be set up on the blind date of their dreams!

During breaks from the games and performances, you'll have a chance to mix and mingle with other queers at the event, with ice breakers and wristbands to share your single status, or to show you're just looking to make friends. You might even find a little blind date of your own! (partnered, monogamous people are 100% welcome at this event and it is just as fun to come and make friends or just cheer on the games and acts!)

As with all Big Queer Picnic events, this event is open to queer people of all genders, but it centres queer women, trans and non-binary people.

There will be an in-depth access post on the @bigqueerpicnic instagram to help answer all your access questions, but please feel free to message across with anything more specific. The RVT is wheelchair accessible and has a step free toilet but does not have a disabled toilet. The closest disabled toilet is at Vauxhall station. Earplugs will be available at the door. Access Ticket entitles you to bar and door queue jump and a reserved seat all night, so please select this ticket if you need it, no questions asked. There will be access co-ordinators on the night available if you have questions/requests. Free tickets are available for carers/personal access support workers. We also have low income tickets available for those who need them, please send a quick message across if that is you, on here or on instagram @bigqueerpicnic

There is a cloakroom available.

Since you’re here…

… we have a small favour to ask. We don't want your money to support a hack's bar bill at Abattoir, but if you have a pound or two spare, we really encourage you to support a good cause. If this review has either helped you discover a gem or avoid a turkey, consider doing some good that will really make a difference.

You can donate to the charity of your choice, but if you're looking for inspiration, there are three charities we really like.

Mama Biashara
Kate Copstick’s charity, Mama Biashara, works with the poorest and most marginalised people in Kenya. They give grants to set up small, sustainable businesses that bring financial independence and security. That five quid you spend on a large glass of House White? They can save someone’s life with that. And the money for a pair of Air Jordans? Will take four women and their fifteen children away from a man who is raping them and into a new life with a moneymaking business for Mum and happiness for the kids.

Theatre MAD
The Make A Difference Trust fights HIV & AIDS one stage at a time. Their UK and International grant-making strategy is based on five criteria that raise awareness, educate, and provide care and support for the most vulnerable in society. A host of fundraising events, including Bucket Collections, Late Night Cabarets, West End Eurovision, West End Bares and A West End Christmas continue to raise funds for projects both in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa.
