In this imaginative recital, the peerless (The Guardian) Takcs Quartet performs two great Viennese classics alongside the European premiere of a work written especially for them.
The concert begins with Joseph Haydns radiant Sunrise Quartet, nicknamed to mirror the slowly unfurling violin melody with which it opens. This is one of the composers loveliest chamber works, both rapt and playful. It is followed by the European premiere of Nokuthula Ngwenyamas Flow, a multi-faceted composition inspired by the natural world and ancient spiritual traditions.
The programme concludes with Franz Schuberts epic Quartet in G, which he wrote just two years before his death. From its haunting opening chords to the spirited dance of its finale, this is a compelling musical journey from darkness into light.
