Ta Daaa!, the magical clown duo from down under are in Edinburgh this summer performing their children’s show. There was fun, games and plenty of silliness in their performance.
The personas of the two, particularly Frehd, were unfortunately, a tad grating. It was a strange mix of excitement and desperation. Much of Frehd’s speech consisted of repeatedly begging Tim Eee to do things in a whiny and exasperated voice, whilst jumping up and down. It exasperated me. I understood that she was trying to create a child-like persona, but this annoying act was somewhat constant. I doubt the kids would find it irritating but the adults’ sanity must also be considered in occasions such as these.
They did, however, perform some very impressive tricks that I found myself often wowed by. One surprisingly original trick involved two slices of bread! Another I enjoyed was Frehd drawing a cartoon picture of a boy in the audience only for it to take on a life of it’s own! How did they do it? Ta Daa performed songs too, which weren’t spectacular kids songs, but got them clapping along! The best part of the show had to be the grand finale involving giant bubbles.
The children weren’t screaming with laughter, but at least they were entertained. Take your kids, but you have been warned!
