Hamburg, 1943. At the height of the allied bombing, teenagers living under Nazi rule defy the regime by dancing to banned jazz music in a secret underground bunker. When dangerous political pamphlets start to circulate, these Swing Kids need to decide just what it means to be free, and whether they should stand up to the Nazis more actively. Swing Heil was the phrase used by real White Rose activists in resistance to the Nazi regime. Inevitably invites comparison with Cabaret. Remarkably the show holds up very well against so mighty a prototype (Oxford Times).
