Stag King is a performance lecture / drag show about personhood, productivity and whathappens when your role is made redundant. Queer performance artist Liberty Martin introduces the ancient god of the hunt, a seven-foot tall muscular deity, known in this incarnation as Stag King.Stag King is half man, half stag and half-cut most of the time since his business collapsedAGAIN. Liberty and the Stag King met at an online drag workshop in 2020, and decided to make a show that contextualises Stag Kings different professional roles, including: Revered God, Stag Night Entertainer and, most recently, Drag King. The performance asks how we survive and find meaning in our lives while many established sources of identity disappear. As a rapidly changing climate threatens our way of life, what can we learn from a sexy cervitaur whose working life peaked in the palaeolithic era?
