In 1868, a rescued 10-year-old African slave boy, Tommy, is whisked away to Brighton to a lodging house and the home comforts of Eliza and Henry Thompson who become his guardians. It is here he meets their illegitimate great-niece, 11-year-old Mary, stigmatised by her shameful birth and slow mind.Watching their respective stories told though short monologues, acting and game play, we are witnesses to a brief but powerful friendship that will transcend race, religion and rigid social norms of Victorian England.Winner of the coveted Irene Mensah Memorial Award 2018.
