Pianist Jonathan Powell performs the 24 Preludes & Fugues of Dmitri Shostakovich. Composed in the early 1950s in Moscow, the set comprises of a prelude and fugue in all the major and minor keys of the chromatic scale. Taking his inspiration from The Well-Tempered Clavier perhaps, Shostakovich creates radiant new piano sonorities, textures and intricate fugal designs. Jonathan's muscular and colourful performance during last year's Fringe of Sorabji's mammoth Opus Clavicembalisticum was well received, so this event promises to be equally exciting. Jonathan is a pianist and composer and has made 20 CDs.
