If the full house is any indication, Sharron Matthews really is a superstar and by the time she utters her first notes, she won’t let you forget it. Matthews greets each of her guests as they come through the door with a golden-gloved handshake. Her exuberant stage presence glitters as much as her gold sequined dress.
Matthews is funny and she knows it. Neither men nor women are off-limits for her sassy innuendoes. You can’t help but get caught up in her funny stories and have your breath taken away by her vocal abilities. She has a giant range of notes, sounds, and styles from pop to operatic. Some favourites include covers of Lovestoned, Sweet Child of Mine, and Bohemian Rhapsody. She sings one of the most hauntingly beautiful and heartfelt renditions of Radiohead’s Creep that I have ever heard. Christopher Tsujiuchi accompanies her on a piano keyboard with a nimble hand, while she belts and ballads with a glimmer in her eye and a laugh in your belly.
By the time the show is over, it seems like it has just begun. Matthews’ ability to banter and get familiar with her audience makes them feel like they only just got to know her. One thing is certain, Sharron is pure Gold.
