SCUM: Self-Centred Urban Male (ALBUM LAUNCH GIG) - LAW ABIDIN CITIZ3N
  • London Fringe

All Hail The Glory! East Londons famous creative hothouse, LGBTQ+ performance venue, nightclub and curators of major events and festivals. Proudly owned by iconic London drag queens Jonny Woo and John Sizzle, plus legendary party-starter Colin Rothbart. We proudly present LAW ABIDIN CITIZ3N, promoting his debut album SCUM: Self-Centred Urban Male, The album launch show.

SCUM: Self-Centred Urban Male is available everywhere now.

Essentially a dance album, albeit one which is revelatory in its mixture of house beats, hip-hop, ambient electronic, throw-back samples and its celebration of the 80's and 90's rave culture.

From mixing Nigerian tribal chants echoed around the sweet cries of 'Fade to Grey' by Visage on SCUM's opening track 'Mother Mary'. Sampling a favourite erotic movie intertwined with Chris Isaak's 'Wicked Game' subset over thumbing tribal beats on 'Breathe', or a cheeky 90's Moby esque hip-hop ambient trip girl-power anthem urging his fellow 'self-centred urban males' to put female pleasure a priority in the bedroom by sampling The Spice Girls - 'Who Do You Think You Are' on 'Giving Is Good'. A Linkin Park construct hip-hop tribal beat sampling Ru Paul's 90's smash 'Supermodel' refutes his lovers claims that he is 'bitter' by exclaiming "From dreams I have awoken, you call me bitter as if for life is sweet and I am liquorice and not heartbroken". Jefferson Airplane inspires 'Chasing Rabbits' which is written from the purported shoes of how his parents view him and see ABIDIN's life playing out. 'Levitation' samples 'Sweet Harmony' by The Beloved and 'The Power of Goodbye' from Madonna and William Orbit's legendary 90's Ray of Light album.

Where Is The Glory?

The Glory is located in Haggerston, close to where Kingsland Rd crosses the Regents Canal, close to what has been tongue-in-cheek named The Haggerston Riviera.

The Glory is just a 2 minutes walk from Haggerston Station, or a 10 minutes stroll down from Dalston or up from Shoreditch. (Some people refer to this whole area as Shoreditch)

From Liverpool St station both the 242 and 149 heading north stop right outside the pub (Laburnum Rd stop)

Alternatively you can take a leisurely stroll or cycle along the canal from London Fields or Angel.

Since you’re here…

… we have a small favour to ask. We don't want your money to support a hack's bar bill at Abattoir, but if you have a pound or two spare, we really encourage you to support a good cause. If this review has either helped you discover a gem or avoid a turkey, consider doing some good that will really make a difference.

You can donate to the charity of your choice, but if you're looking for inspiration, there are three charities we really like.

Mama Biashara
Kate Copstick’s charity, Mama Biashara, works with the poorest and most marginalised people in Kenya. They give grants to set up small, sustainable businesses that bring financial independence and security. That five quid you spend on a large glass of House White? They can save someone’s life with that. And the money for a pair of Air Jordans? Will take four women and their fifteen children away from a man who is raping them and into a new life with a moneymaking business for Mum and happiness for the kids.

Theatre MAD
The Make A Difference Trust fights HIV & AIDS one stage at a time. Their UK and International grant-making strategy is based on five criteria that raise awareness, educate, and provide care and support for the most vulnerable in society. A host of fundraising events, including Bucket Collections, Late Night Cabarets, West End Eurovision, West End Bares and A West End Christmas continue to raise funds for projects both in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa.
