Whilst continually being a swelteringly drowsy venue, the Pleasance Attic has nonetheless been a happy hunting ground for up and coming comedians in recent years - Matt Kirshen and Shappi Korsandi, to name but two, have enjoyed successful runs herein recent years. Rudi Lickwood is perhaps not as skilful or polished as either of these two, but his show is a pleasant ramble in the world of different cultures.Lickwood describes himself as a 'poo in a rice pudding', but with his wide grin and a friendly face he quickly capitvates the audience. While some jokes on exchange rates and all things British are a bit stereotyped and cliched, the likeable Lickwood holds the audience well with his take on the infiltration of Japanese TVs, American shows and Belgian beers into our once purer isles. The topics of comedic conversation are not highly original, but the show is enjoybale and Lickwood has clearly put plenty of thought into creating a well-rounded performance. His lashing out at plimsolls for causing such pain when jumping off a high horse at school is the best example of the boisterous and blase approach which underlines this show.
