A monolithic unblinking TV screen sits quietly upstage setting the tone of safe, snug reliability - and that's what we get but with the added twinkling charm of a man whose act has been perfected over many, many years.
A 80 or so strong audience of mixed ages warmly greeted white haired Roy Walker as he paced onto the stage and gleefully embarked on an ambling meander through his comic career. His tone is slow, measured and supremely confident - no beat is missed. This is not high energy and a lot of younger comics could learn from his considered approach.
Yes, there's old gags - but the laughs are in the present and they come thick and strong as Walker dutifully pays out his material like a jolly jeweller polishing each gem before handing it over. The audience clearly adored him - and he clearly relishes standing before them. This is a show that does exactly what is says it will - with clear, precise, professionalism and a cheery grin.
