Extraordinary playing by the double bassist Michael Cretu (BroadwayBaby.com). Cretu comes from a 300-year-old Roma musician family. His ancestor Petrea Cretu was the violinist of Braila (Romania) and his uncle Johnny Raducanu is considered the father of Romanian jazz. In his talk, Michael will explore the Romas culture and history from slavery and holocaust to today and the influence Roma had on European art. The talk will be followed by a solo double bass recital. Michael will perform his compositions influenced by Roma traditional music in folk, jazz and contemporary arrangements.
