After my last Fringe appearance (August, 2016), I had to step away from Edinburgh and consider how to be less devastatingly funny. Many of the people at that show suffered fainting spells, hallucinations and accelerated heartbeats " the result of being exposed to such a breathtaking work of art. I later learned there's a term for this condition: The Stendahl Syndrome. Thankfully it's not permanent or litigious. All I can say is that on my return (Assembly Rooms, George Square, 13-28 August), I promise to dial it back just a little.
