100 years ago Nurse Edith Cavell was shot for assisting allied soldiers out of Belgium. Her death prompted a nationwide outcry and made her into a reluctant heroine. She wanted to be remembered only as a nurse, but instead she is remembered as someone who did more than her duty and for whom patriotism was never enough. She had to forgive her friends and her foes. A truly remarkable retelling that was premiered at a special performance to mark the centenary of her death last October in Norwich Cathedral.
