Rat Race is a dark tragicomedy set in a rat cage that is at the center of a badly handled experiment. Kenneth is just a PhD student doing his best, how is he supposed to know that his three lab rats are going through existential crises? The rats are trying to get on with their work in peace, but they are disrupted by a new occupant in the cage; an occupant who makes them think about their purpose for the first time. The play addresses capitalism, the modern worker, consumer culture and of course, rats.
