Sometimes a gig feels like visiting an old friend - the audience have never seen the comedian before, but we have seen comics like him and he’s had audiences like us. Thus somehow there is the familiarity of a shared history, without us ever having been in the same room before.
This is what it is like when Nic Coppin is on stage. With only six of us in the audience he included all of us whilst running through his set- nothing we haven’t seen before, jokes about racial stereotypes, celebrities and his own history (relishing in being politically incorrect), but with the addition of charming caricatures to transition from one bit to the next. The best part was clearly a well-rehearsed popular gag about who would win in a battle between Spiderman and Wolverine (make sure you insist that Wolverine would win!), and if you’re a fan of comics you are in good hands.
The drawings are fun and different, and he has all the confidence and ease of a professional who should really be addressing a bigger audience. If you’ve ever seen his other shows Huggers (for children) or Shaggers (for definitely not children) and enjoy a bit of culture comedy laced with riffing, go and check out Nic Coppin’s Caricatures.
