Rising stars Nick Pritchard and Ian Tindale celebrate three outstanding song composers: Gabriel Faur, Francis Poulenc and Benjamin Britten.
Nick Pritchards performance has been described as engaging and beautifully considered (Opera Today). He is joined by the wonderfully responsive and assured (The Telegraph) pianist Ian Tindale in a celebration of 20th-century French and English song.
The recital demonstrates the versatility of song composer Benjamin Britten. The impassioned Canticle I is inspired by one of the most sensual passages from the Old Testament, while Winter Words sets poems by Thomas Hardy that ruminate on the passing of time and the glories of nature. By contrast, the delightful settings of British and French folksongs are playful and romantic.
The programme also features two leading French melodists: Gabriel Faur and Francis Poulenc. Faurs LHorizon chimrique depicts a mysterious sea voyage, while Poulencs songs include an evocation of sunset and an ardent protest against the barbarity of war.
