The Swedish singer, rapper and audacious 80s icon Neneh Cherry makes her International Festival debut to perform songs from her three-decade career. Her classic debut album Raw Like Sushi fused elements from rap, pop, trip-hop, dance and R&B with remixed synths and woozy drum machines. Its lead single Buffalo Stance became a huge international hit and earned her a Brit Award for International Solo Artist "she melted the statue and turned it into jewellery. An influential musician and political performer, her songs examine issues as diverse as the refugee crisis, abortion, gun violence and the rise of the far right. Her fifth solo album Broken Politics, released in 2018 and produced by Four Tet, took a cerebral lo-fi approach, reinvigorating her song writing and signalling a fresh direction for an ever-changing artist.
There will be a support act for this concert which will be announced closer to the time.
