Mitzi Fitz's Big Fat Cabaret
  • London Fringe

(The Glory made the terrible mistake of not changing their locks and Mitzi ain't about to let an opportunity like that slide.)

Feat. the best large,* plump,* chubby,* heavy-set,* plus-sized,* queen-sized,* above-average,* fluffy,* curvy,* rubenesque,* husky,* full-bodied* drag, burlesque, comedy, theatre and performance art this side of the Venus of Willendorf.

*fat.

Fronted by the unhinged (EdFringeReview.com) Posey Mehta as Mitzi Fitz, this is a big rowdy knees-up of a cabaret for everyone who couldn't quite squidge themselves into the box they were handed by society (and their friends, lovers and allies).

Expect:

Belly laughs & belly rolls; soft wholesome punk anarchy; a firm no thank you to decency and civility; leaving the gender binary and other heterosexual nonsense at the door; the best hugs in the whole world; the entirety of La Vie Boheme from Rent; body neutrality not body positivity; and sheer fucking fat talent.

Ticket prices:

We operate a sliding scale of ticket prices** to ensure this event is accessible to as many people as possible. This is a trust system; please choose the ticket price that best represents your current means.

5 ~ Fuck me this cozzie living crisis has my (metaphorical) balls in a vice7 ~ I'm okay with paying the regular ticket price10 ~ "I can afford to splash out and support fat queer art rn"

This event also has a policy of no one turned away for lack of means. If you cannot currently afford the price of a ticket, get in touch and we'll get you sorted out!

**Because of the way OutSavvy works, we have to allocate a number of tickets to each price bracket. If you'd like to buy a ticket from a bracket that is showing as Sold Out, drop us a message and we can reallocate some tickets from another of the brackets (availability permitting).

Previous praise:

'A must-see' (EdFringeReview.com)

'Brilliantly bonkers' (FringeBiscuit.co.uk)

'The most fun I've ever had at the Fringe' (BroadwayWorld.com)

Access at the Glory:

The Glory is not a fully accessible space.

To access the gender neutral toilets, you have to go up 3 steps. There is no accessible toilet at this venue, and the gender neutral toilets are not large enough to accommodate a wheelchair or larger mobility aid. To access the event, you have to go down a narrow flight of 12 stairs with a handrail, or alternatively 3 small flights of stairs that are easier to manage for stick users. At various points during the event, lighting will be low and noise levels may be high. The space in which the event is held gets hot, especially when full.We acknowledge this is by no means a comprehensive list. If you have specific access requirements, please get in touch and we can hopefully provide you with more information and accommodate them where possible.

Since you’re here…

… we have a small favour to ask. We don't want your money to support a hack's bar bill at Abattoir, but if you have a pound or two spare, we really encourage you to support a good cause. If this review has either helped you discover a gem or avoid a turkey, consider doing some good that will really make a difference.

You can donate to the charity of your choice, but if you're looking for inspiration, there are three charities we really like.

Mama Biashara
Kate Copstick’s charity, Mama Biashara, works with the poorest and most marginalised people in Kenya. They give grants to set up small, sustainable businesses that bring financial independence and security. That five quid you spend on a large glass of House White? They can save someone’s life with that. And the money for a pair of Air Jordans? Will take four women and their fifteen children away from a man who is raping them and into a new life with a moneymaking business for Mum and happiness for the kids.

Theatre MAD
The Make A Difference Trust fights HIV & AIDS one stage at a time. Their UK and International grant-making strategy is based on five criteria that raise awareness, educate, and provide care and support for the most vulnerable in society. A host of fundraising events, including Bucket Collections, Late Night Cabarets, West End Eurovision, West End Bares and A West End Christmas continue to raise funds for projects both in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa.
