The Black sea gentlemen return to the Fringe with a cabaret noir of mournful music, strange characters and stunning visual theatre. They are a novel act who already appear to have a loyal following of mesmerised fans.
Mikelangelo is the supremely confident master of ceremonies. His rich vocals are accompanied by violin, accordion, double bass and clarinet. The lyrics weave ghoulish tales that surprise and delight and are set to mournful waltzes and polkas. There are lighter musical moments like the western number 10 Long Years in the Saddle Waiting for Death to Come. Amongst the music are monologues from doleful comic characters telling their troubled tales.
Visually and dramatically the show is great. There is little variety in the music but the lyrics provide the entertainment. I doubt you'll see anything else like this on this years Fringe. It's a darkly enjoyable experience.
