Felix Mendelssohn came to Scotland in 1829, drawn by myth and history, the works of Walter Scott, and our countrys natural beauty. This fruitful journey inspired a symphony, an overture, and a sonata. Named in his honour, and now in its 33rd year, the Mendelssohn on Mull Festival begins in Tobermory on the Isle of Mull on September 5. Richard Jeffcoat at the piano offers music from the composers pilgrimage, and a preview of a week of chamber music, featuring students of exceptional promise and curated by the Doric String Quartet.
