The celebrated American choreographer Mark Morris, swings into town with Pepperland, his unique tribute to one of the best-selling albums of all time: The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2017.
In this exuberant new dance work, visually on the cusp of Carnaby Street and Woodstock, Pepperland teases out the album's colourfully avant-garde heart and eccentric charm, and resounds with all ingenuity, musicality and wit for which the Mark Morris Dance Group is known.
A bold new score from Ethan Iverson featuring six idiosyncratic, jazzy reinventions of the original songs, including A Day in the Life, When I'm Sixty-Four, Penny Lane, With a Little Help From My Friends and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club, is performed live by a remarkable seven-piece band.
