The talented students of the Feltonfleet School star in this creepy adaptation of William Goldings Lord of the Flies.
Hoping to protect them from the bombs being dropped during wartime, a group of English schoolboys are sent away. When their plane crashes on a deserted island, the boys suddenly find themselves with no rules and no supervision, putting some of them in touch with their inner-savage.
To my unexpected surprise, some of the best performances I have seen at the fringe this season have come from this young cast. Despite their youth, they are unafraid to commit themselves entirely to this challenging story and to their characters. The setting at Augustines also compliments the show perfectly, creating a highly effective duality between the good and evil sides of the island. Clearly, there is something to be said for the raw talent of children, and this group absolutely sparkles.
