Brought to us by four performers who are intelligent, endearing and funny in equal measure, Greetings from Kwat aims to ‘explore the dirty under-carriage of our suburban dystopia.’ This they do with a charisma that compliments their set well.
The performance is composed of a series of sketches including a hostage situation where a grey squirrel is taken hostage by red squirrels, signified by red hats and, I’ll hazard a guess, some of the best squirrel impressions ever seen on the Edinburgh Fringe. Other moments include a sketch in which all four performers use one-upmanship to prove their alternative credentials. The catchphrase used ‘not cool is cool’ brilliantly encapsulates the perceptive and topical nature of the performance. Some jokes fared better than others though there was always a lot of potential in the work. The performers in Kwat have keen physical skills and although some of this was evident during the performance I would have liked to have seen more ambitious physical comedy - this is where the strength of the group lies.
Kwat managed to engage the audience and pull them into their world and their Greetings is an enjoyable and well-conceived performance. Definitely worth a watch.
