This award-winning troupe of multi-talented dancers and musicians from South Korea present a colourful fusion of both modern and traditional drumming and dance.Over the years, the Kook Soo-ho’s Didim Dance Company, winner of the Korea Grand Prize for Dance in 2010, has thrilled audiences in more than 30 countries. In the current Edinburgh show, they recreate their magic through beautiful choreography that showcases the dynamics of Korean dancing by way of dignified and uniformed movements. The brilliance of this show is exemplified by the simplicity with which the troupe maintains a sense of playfulness and humour throughout the show, while maintaining the intensity of the traditional art form. The audience especially loved the Fan Dance and Sango-Mu (drum dance), both of which received a standing ovation. But in all fairness, each sequence is a masterpiece in its own right. The show creates and maintains a wonderful rhythm throughout the performance by using various forms of traditional and non-traditional Korean musical instruments. Although a few acts that have been thrown in to add an extra comedy factor feel a bit superfluous towards the end, they can be easily forgiven considering the overall excellence of the piece. All in all, it stands as a beautifully put together show that demands to be seen.
