Kev Orkian in Concert - The World's Favourite Foreigner

Kev Orkian of Britain's Got Talent! fame has toured the world and performed for royalty. Don't let this put you off. Orkian is a highly skilled showman, presenting an entertaining hour of music and comedy.

The show starts off with a video about Orkian's recent exploits: joking with Prince Philip; meeting the armed forces; Simon Cowell gazing lovingly. Orkian name drops a bit too much, trying too hard to impress and verging on self-congratulatory. However, he balances this out with some self-mockery and doesn't display an ounce of arrogance. Once his show begins it is extremely good. He thanks his audience with good-humoured grace and delivers punchlines in a speedy Armenian accent, hammed up for theatrical effect.

With a background in musicals and pantomime, Orkian knows how to please a crowd. As lovable as a teddy bear, he presents a family friendly show; the audience members range from ten-year-olds to the over-fifties. His routine has something for everyone. An accomplished pianist and singer, he makes classical music fun and accessible, performing techno mash-ups of well known pieces. He even performs some comedy opera. To prevent the show becoming too high-brow, the music is interspersed with fart jokes.

Orkian delivers his anecdotes with deft professionalism and impeccable comic timing. He bursts with so much energy that by the end of the show he seems somewhat deflated and his accent starts to slip. Even so, this fast paced musical comedy doesn't contain a single dull moment. The audience loved him and they left the auditorium 100% satisfied.

Since you’re here…

… we have a small favour to ask. We don't want your money to support a hack's bar bill at Abattoir, but if you have a pound or two spare, we really encourage you to support a good cause. If this review has either helped you discover a gem or avoid a turkey, consider doing some good that will really make a difference.

You can donate to the charity of your choice, but if you're looking for inspiration, there are three charities we really like.

Mama Biashara
Kate Copstick’s charity, Mama Biashara, works with the poorest and most marginalised people in Kenya. They give grants to set up small, sustainable businesses that bring financial independence and security. That five quid you spend on a large glass of House White? They can save someone’s life with that. And the money for a pair of Air Jordans? Will take four women and their fifteen children away from a man who is raping them and into a new life with a moneymaking business for Mum and happiness for the kids.

Their UK and International grant-making strategy is based on five criteria that raise awareness, educate, and provide care and support for the most vulnerable in society. A host of fundraising events, including Bucket Collections, Late Night Cabarets, West End Eurovision, West End Bares and A West End Christmas continue to raise funds for projects both in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa.
