This isn’t a show to be taken seriously and although it has its moments of darkness, you don’t leave having learned a lesson or a new moral and that’s completely okay. You leave feeling like you’ve had a great night. It’s a funny take on true crime podcasts and the sort of people who both enjoy and create them through the medium of song. What’s not to enjoy?
Barbe and Hinds have great chemistry and bounce off each other beautifully. You believe they’re great friends and you believe (at points) that they find each other really quite annoying, which is frankly perfect for the roles. Barbe plays the sweeter and more reserved Kathy incredibly well, singing her heart out and making it seem easy whilst she’s at it. Vocally the same can be said for Hinds as she plays the cocky, annoyingly confident and boisterous Stella to perfection.
The rest of the cast also did incredible jobs multi-rolling and each of them brought energy and great power to their performances. Jodie Jacobs swapped between characters with immense ease and effortless humour. Imelda Warren-Green played the fanatic listener of Stella and Kathy’s podcast to great laughs from the audience and brought exceptional character to her role. The final actor of the main five was TJ Lloyd, who was hilarious, charismatic and bounced between some of the most different characters in the show without batting an eye. The ensemble also did an incredible job filling out the show to give the undeniably great sound that was delivered.
