A well structured, clever and charming hour of stand-up comedy, Juliet Meyers was a joy to watch. Although there were few resounding belly laughs, Meyers managed to ride the bad jokes and made for a thoroughly enjoyable show.Stanley Kubrick's Spartacus is Meyers' favourite film and the show is organized loosely around the idea that she would never have the nerve to stand up and join the masses in proclaiming that she was Spartacus. This central insight into her psyche is revisited throughout as a jumping-off point to explore diverse issues from the role of Facebook in the Arab Spring to the Scottish love of expletives.Although consistently funny, there were a few jokes which didn't go down well with the audience. However, thanks to Meyers' endearing personality, the audience were never lost and she skilfully turned these misses around. One of the highlights of the show was a section of audience interaction where Meyers brought out two men to act out a deleted scene from Spartacus. The two forced volunteers took it in their stride and this segment highlighted just how much fun the show is to watch.Meyers is not the funniest stand-up you'll see at this year's Fringe but she might be the most charming. If you're looking for big laughs this may not be the show for you, but for an hour of well-constructed and thoroughly enjoyable comedy you could do far worse.
