I'm sure that Jason Byrne comes to Edinburgh every year with something in mind to talk to us about, but he always seems to find more madcap comedy in his punters than in any pre-prepared material, giving us the wonderful feeling that the show is somehow being uniquely knitted together before our eyes from audience interactions.
From picking on the 15-year old in the front row (still wanking fella?), to trying to penetrate some of the broader Scots accents in the room, he's a master of finding comedy in the room.
When he does get to do some of his set, it's all good stuff, from messing with his young son's mind, to domestic bliss and DIY, to a great skit about being a townie moving to the countryside.
Building to a great finale, he produces an audience-assisted Riverdance which brings the house down. Definitely a safe way to invest your comedy pounds this festival. Go see.
